Amerks Sign Hedden, Luciani to Tryouts for Final Weekend

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans announced today that the club has signed forward Mike Hedden to a 25-game Professional Tryout. In a related move, the Amerks also announced that fellow forward Anthony Luciani has been brought in on an Amateur Tryout. The pair is expected to be in the Amerks lineup this weekend as Rochester brings the 2010-11 American Hockey League season to a close.

Hedden, 26, comes to Rochester after posting a breakout season with the ECHL's Toledo Walleye in 2010-11. A native of Dunnville, Ontario, Hedden led the Walleye with a career-high 32 goals and finished third on the team in scoring with 52 points in 57 games. He also made his American Hockey League debut this season, assisting on one goal in a combined four games between the Grand Rapids Griffins and Rockford IceHogs.

Prior to turning pro, the 5-foot-10, 185-pound forward played four seasons (2005-09) at Neumann College (ECAC), where he amassed 163 points in 108 career games with the Knights. In just four years at Neumann College, Hedden became the program's all-time leading goal scorer with 96 tallies en route to two NCAA Division III National championships in 2006 and 2009. He also ranks fourth all-time in school history in assists (67) and second in points (163).

Luciani, 20, makes his first jump to the professional ranks after recently completing his third season with the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League. The Maple, Ontario, native finished fourth on the team in scoring, capturing career-highs in both points (78) and assists (49). He was also among Erie's top performers in the 2011 OHL Playoffs, scoring a team-high seven goals and 10 points in seven postseason appearances.

During the 2009-10 season, the 5-foot-8, 190-pound forward averaged a point-per-game, finishing with 68 points in as many outings. He also led the Otters with 38 goals and was only one of four players to reach the 30-goal plateau. He completed the campaign 13th among the OHL's top goal scorers and recorded an impressive three hat tricks over the course of the season.

The Amerks return home on Friday, April 8th as they close out their season series with the Binghamton Senators at The Blue Cross Arena. Fans can tune in for all the live action starting at 7:35 p.m. on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk. The game will also be televised live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet.
