Albuquerque's Jasper Johnson Named D-League Performer Of The Week

NEW YORK, Feb. 23, 2009 - Jasper Johnson the Albuquerque Thunderbirds has been named NBA D-League Performer of the Week for games played during the week of Feb. 16, 2009. Johnson is the second Thunderbird to earn the honor this season, joining teammate Will Conroy.

Johnson led the Thunderbirds to two wins last week, extending the team's winning streak to five games while averaging 34.0 points and 13.5 rebounds while shooting 25-of-38 (.658) from the field. He set new season high's on Saturday when he scored 42 points and grabbed 19 rebounds in a win over the Tulsa 66ers.

A 6-8 forward from Delta State, Johnson was a first-round pick (13th overall) by the Los Angeles D-Fenders in the 2008 NBA D-league Draft before being traded to Albuquerque in December. This season, Johnson is averaging 15.3 points and 8.0 rebounds in 27 games.

Other top performers last week included Bakersfield's Derrick Byars, who averaged 22.0 points and 4.0 rebounds while leading the Jam to a 2-0 record; Tulsa's Ryan Humphries, who averaged 32.0 points and 11.5 rebounds in two games for the 66ers; Iowa's Othyus Jeffers, who averaged 20.3 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.3 steals in four games for the Energy; Austin's Pops Mensah-Bonsu, who averaged 28.0 points and 14.5 rebounds in four games for the Toros; Iowa's Curtis Stinson, who averaged 20.0 points, 8.9 assists and 5.8 rebounds in four games for the Energy; and Rio Grande Valley's Jawad Williams, who averaged 25.0 points in three games for the Vipers.
