October 5, 2021 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
New England Revolution News Release
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - New England Revolution forward Adam Buksa has been called into the Poland National Team for two FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches in October. Buksa will join Poland for its upcoming World Cup Qualifiers at home against San Marino on Saturday, October 9 (2:45 p.m. ET - ESPN+) and away at Albania on Wednesday, October 12 (2:45 p.m. ET - ESPN+).
Buksa excelled in his first action with the Poland National Team during September's qualifying action. The 25-year-old striker recorded four goals in his first three caps, including a hat trick in a 7-1 rout of San Marino on Sept. 5. He ranks among the top three goal scorers in UEFA qualifying matches. Buksa leads all UEFA goal scorers in goals per 90 minutes (1.90), minutes per goal (47), and goal conversion (80%), while ranking tied for best shot accuracy (100%). The forward is the lone player among the top 25 UEFA goal scorers who represents a non-European club.
After six games played in Group I, Poland sits in third place with 11 points behind England (16) and Albania (12). The top team in the group after 10 matches will qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, while the second-place team will advance to a playoff.
In 2021, Buksa is tied for the team lead with 13 goals to go along with two assists across 27 games played for the Supporters' Shield-leading Revolution. He has totaled 19 goals in 50 MLS regular season appearances with four assists, in addition to one goal in four MLS Cup Playoff appearances. Buksa's 19 league goals are even with Robert Warzycha (Columbus Crew, 1996-2003), and closing in on Piotr Nowak (29 goals, Chicago Fire, 1998-2003), and current Philadelphia Union player Kacper Przybylko (32 goals, 2018-present) among the top three Polish scorers of all-time in MLS.
The first-place Revolution return to MLS action with a home contest on Saturday, Oct. 16 vs. Chicago Fire FC. The match kicks off at 7:00 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium and airs locally on WSBK-TV38, myRITV, CoziTV, 98.5 The Sports Hub, and 1260 AM Nossa Radio.
