Titans Dominant in 6-2 Win over Reading; Improve to 2-0
October 13, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Titans News Release
TRENTON, NJ - Continuing their strong play to start the 2012-13 season, t he Trenton Titans, ECHL member and proud affiliate of the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers, turned in another dominant performance Saturday night in Reading, dropping their Atlantic Division foe by final of 6-2, before 5,145 fans at the Sovereign Center.
With the win - by the identical score of their preseason game in Reading a week earlier - the Titans improve to 2-0 and in the process end an eight-game slide against the Royals. The loss drops Reading to 0-2.
Jacob Drewiske got things going 31 seconds into the game, slipping one just over the line past Royals goalie Brandon Anderson (0-1, 22 saves), who was making his professional debut. Drewiske beat him again for a 2-0 lead just 1:33 into the second, ripping a shorthanded turnaround shot from just inside the right circle, over Anderson's left shoulder.
Andy Bohmbach (G, A) followed with a put-back two minutes later for a 3-0 advantage. Stephen Schultz recorded his second goal in as many nights for a 4-1 lead at 5:11 of the second to all but salt the game away. Ian Slater and Drew Akins also added goals for the Titans.
Kirk MacDonald and Denny Urban each got their first of the year for Reading, but were the only ones to solve Titans' goalie Scott Wedgewood. The Albany Devils product turned away 31 shots to - like Trenton teammate Niko Hovinen the previous night - get his first career win in his first pro start.
Trenton - which was next to last in penalty killing last season - saw its string of 12-straight kills to start the year end when Urban put home a loose puck at 8:20 of the third. Reading ended up 1-for-7 for the night on the man advantage (including allowing two shorthanded goals), while Trenton went 0-for-3 on its chances. Since scoring on their first two power plays of the year, the Titans have misfired on their last eight opportunities.
The Titans will host the Royals on October 17, at 7:05 pm, at the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton, NJ, before leaving on a Midwest road trip, where they will battle the Evansville (IN) Icemen (October 19) and the Cincinnati Cyclones on the 20th.
Titans Tuesdays - Tuesday's on the radio are now "Titans Tuesdays" throughout the hockey season, as Head Coach Vince Williams takes to the airways twice. First, he will be interviewed live on WCTC-1450 AM at 1:25 pm to talk all things Titans. Then at 8 pm, he will join Titans' broadcaster Daryle Dobos on the Trenton Titans Coaches Show on the Titans' flagship station, 107.7 FM The Bronc. The show will broadcast live from Killarney's Publick House in Hamilton Township, NJ.
The Trenton Titans returned in the 2011-12 hockey season after a five year hiatus and boasted a 26.1% increase in attendance over the previous year, the largest of any team in the 20-team ECHL.
