KENNESAW, GA (Aug. 9, 2010) - Atlanta Beat General Manager Shawn McGee announced the expansion club has agreed to terms (pending league approval) with former FC Gold Pride defender Kaley Fountain after a mutual decision to discontinue defender Katie Larkin's contract.

"We mutually terminated Katie Larkin's contract to allow her to pursue planning for her upcoming nuptials," said Beat head coach Gareth O'Sullivan. "We wish Katie all the best in her future endeavors."

Now joining the Beat is the 22-year-old Fountain, a 5' 7'' defender from Wake Forest University. Fountain was selected by Bay Area in the 2009 WPS Draft. She played in five games for the Pride with one start and, and according to O'Sullivan, "She is a very pacey player who can play several different roles."

The 22-year old has U.S. National Team experience noted by roster positions with the U-17's, U-20's, U-21's, and as a current member of the U-23 player pool.

"She plays left back for the Under 23 National Team," said O'Sullivan. "But she can also play left mid or up front, and she gives us options in several positions."

Larkin was a standout from BYU who was drafted out of college to the Los Angeles Sol in 2009. She was later drafted to the Atlanta Beat in the 2009 Expansion draft and played as both a defender and forward the Atlanta club.
