New Haven County Cutters News Release

WEST HAVEN, CT - The New Haven County Cutters have named former college baseball standout Jeff Maier as a special consultant to their front office staff, general manager Marie Heikkinen Webb announced.

Maier, known for his famous home run deflection during a New York Yankees' playoff game in 1996, will be involved in many areas of the Cutters' front office responsibilities including community relations, promotions and advanced scouting.

"I'm very excited to join the Cutters organization," Maier said. "They've been a big part of the community during the last few years and I look forward to helping them out in any way I can."

Maier recently graduated from Wesleyan University (Middletown, CT) where he was a four-year letter winner in baseball and left as the program's all-time leader in base hits (189).

He earned numerous awards while playing at Wesleyan including this past season when he was named first-team all-conference in the New England Small College Athletic Conference, third-team All-New England and CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American.

Prior to joining the Cutters, Maier worked this summer as a scout in the Cape Cod League for ESPN's Peter Gammons and also as an instructor for Frozen Ropes Baseball Training Center.

Originally from Old Tappan, NJ, Maier currently resides in Hamden, CT.
