Crush Signs QB Jay McDonagh

NOV. 12, 2003, DENVER - Having lost backup quarterback Bobby Pesavento in the Arena Football League's expansion draft the Colorado Crush on Wednesday signed AFL veteran quarterback Jay McDonagh to a free agent contract.
Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
McDonagh, 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, played last season for the AFL's Las Vegas Gladiators. He had been with the Gladiators the previous season, as well, when the team was located in New Jersey.
A graduate of Western Michigan University, where he was a three-year All-Conference selection, McDonagh last season completed 244-of-409 passes for 2,793 yards and 45 touchdowns, with 18 inteceptions. The 2002 season was his best in the AFL. He completed 334-of-536 passes for 3,599 yards and 62 touchdowns, while throwing only 15 interceptions and leading the Gladiators to the AFL playoffs.
"Jay is an experienced player who has been an effective starting quarterback in this league," Crush coach Mike Dailey said, "We're excited about having him and looking forward to working with him this year."
McDonagh's signing brings to nine the number of players signed by the Crush since the AFL's free agent signing period began on Oct. 15. Previously announced were fullback-linebacker Rich Young, two-way linemen Hugh Hunter and Pat Downey, defensive specialist Rashad Floyd, wide receivers Dorsey Levy, Robert Redd and Margin Hooks and kicker Anthony Brenner.
