
66ers Announce 2017 Roster, Top Pick Thaiss Included

San Bernardino, CA: The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino announced its roster for California League play on Wednesday. The 66ers, in their seventh season as the Advanced Class-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels open league action versus the San Jose Giants on Thursday at 7:05 pm.
The Angels' top pick in the 2016 draft, first baseman Matt Thaiss is slated for San Bernardino. Thaiss was the 16th overall selection in last June's draft after starring at the University of Virginia. He batted a combined .292 with six homers between rookie-level Orem and low-A Burlington in his 2016 pro debut.
The roster currently features nine pitchers and three position players that have donned the blue and orange prior to 2017. Returning pitchers are Justin Anderson, Corona-native Adam Hofacket, Sam Holland, Jake Jewell, Winston Lavendier, Grayson Long, Garrett Nuss, Jeremy Rhoades and Tyler Warmoth. Position players that have suited up with the 66ers are outfielders Michael Hermosillo and Jared Foster with infielder Jake Yacinich coming back as well.
"Once again, the Angels have provided us with some of their top talent," 66ers General Manager Joe Hudson said. "Our fans truly enjoy getting a sneak peek at the Angels of tomorrow and we are thrilled to get the season going with this group of young prospects."
The youngest player on the 66ers roster is RHP Jaime Barria. The Panama City, Panama native was born on July 18, 1996 and is expected to be the 66ers Opening Night starter on the mound. Chad Tracy enters his second season as Field Manager Chad Tracy as does Pitching Coach Michael Wuertz. Moreno Valley native Brian Bethancourt will serve as Hitting Coach.
