IFL Issues Statement on Tri-Cities Fever
June 30, 2016 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release
The Tri-Cities Fever have declared dormancy moving into the 2017 season and beyond.
The Fever will continue to be a member in good standing with the IFL but will not play in 2017. Dormancy allows the team and its assets to be sold and play either locally or in another location (with league approval) or for the owners to move and operate the organization in another location.
"I feel it is important that all of the season ticket holders and sponsors know how much their support over the last 12 seasons has meant to us," stated Tri-Cities Owners Teri and J.R. Carr. "We survived as long as we did because of them. Their passion for the team helped the Tri-Cities be recognized as one of the "Premier" franchises in Indoor Football
"Since the Fever's arrival in 2010, Teri and J.R. Carr have been instrumental to the success and growth of the IFL. They possess all the traits that you look for in an ownership group and playing partner. The entire IFL family wishes them well," said IFL Commissioner Michael Allshouse.
The league and team would entertain offers of a new ownership group.
As the 2016 regular season draws to a close, the league heralds the dawn of an exciting time of the year. The continued quest for the United Bowl trophy begins Saturday July 9 as the 2016 IFL playoffs kick off. In the United Conference, the Cedar Rapids Titans (12-4) host the Wichita Falls Nighthawks (11-5) while the Billings Wolves (8-8) host the Nebraska Danger (6-10) in the Intense Conference.
League awards such as the MVP and Franchise of the Year will be unveiled in the coming weeks. 2017 IFL expansion plans will be unveiled in the near future as well.
