Blackhawks Reduce Roster to 46

Chicago, Ill. - The Chicago Blackhawks announced today they have assigned goaltenders Mac Carruth and Kent Simpson to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. In addition, the team has released forward Ryan Schnell and defensemen Kirill Gotovets, Justin Holl and Zach Miskovic from training camp; all four players will now report to Rockford.

Carruth, 22, appeared in seven games with Rockford in 2013-14, compiling a record of 2-2-1-1 with a .880 save percentage (SPCT) and a 3.36 goals against average (GAA). Carruth also spent time with the ECHL's Toledo Walleye and Florida Everblades during his first pro season.

Simpson, 22, appeared in 31 contests with the IceHogs a season ago and went 11-14-1-0 with a .891 SPCT and a 3.64 GAA. The 2014-15 campaign marks the third in the pro ranks for Simpson.

Miskovic, 29, was acquired midseason last year by Rockford and skated in 15 tilts with the Hogs, registering seven assists with a +11 plus/minus rating. The River Forest, Ill. native was then traded to the Iowa Wild before re-signing with Rockford during the offseason.

The team's active roster now includes 26 forwards, 16 defensemen and four goaltenders.

The Blackhawks open the 2014 preseason tonight against the Detroit Red Wings at the United Center at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised on Comcast SportsNet Plus and can be heard on 87.7FM The Game.
