New York Boulders News Release

(POMONA, N.Y.) - On the final day of the regular season, the Rockland Boulders defeated the New Jersey Jackals 7-3, winning the Can-Am League pennant for the first time in franchise history. The Boulders take three of the final four games in the regular season, winning the regular season crown at home.

Rockland (56-40) needed to overcome an early 1-0 lead as the Jackals (55-41) got a solo home run from Joe Dunigan in the second inning. Dunigan would later hit another solo shot, but it would not too much damage. The Boulders quickly rebounded in the bottom of the third, backing a strong outing from starting pitcher Greg Terhune.

The Boulders loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the third and scored a pair of runs on an error by second baseman Jose Cuevas. They would add four more in the bottom of the fifth, as the first four batters of the inning reached. After Marcus Nidiffer singled and Junior Arrojo walked, Matt Nandin doubled home a pair of runs to make it a 4-1 lead.

Rockland's offense continued to pour it on when Antone DeJesus followed with an RBI double of his own before Stephen Cardullo singled home another run for a 6-1 advantage after five innings. Nandin then drove in another run in the sixth, singling home Giuseppe Papaccio.

That offensive outburst was more than enough for Terhune (3-6) as he went six strong innings allowing one run on three hits. Zach Staniewicz (1-1) took the loss by giving up all seven runs, six earned, on seven hits in six innings of work.

The victory clinches Rockland's first ever Can-Am League regular season crown and gives them some added momentum heading into the league Championship Series. The Boulders will face-off against New Jersey in a best-of-seven series beginning on Wednesday, September 3 at Yogi Berra Stadium. The Jackals will host the first two games before the series shifts to Provident Bank Park for Games 3, 4, and 5 if necessary. Should a Game 6 or 7 be needed, they will also be played in Little Falls, N.J.
