Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Miami Marlins announced a pair of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight's game against the Birmingham Barons at Bragan Field at 7:05 p.m.

Right-handed starting pitcher Dustin Moseley has been transferred from Single-A Greensboro to Jacksonville. Moseley, who was signed by the Marlins as a minor league free agent on July 15, will make his first Suns start tonight against the Barons at Bragan Field.

Moseley made one start for the Grasshoppers on Sunday July 20, giving up four runs (two earned) on five hits with no walks and four strikeouts as he had a no decision. The outing was his first professional start since 2012 as he has been plagued by shoulder injuries in his career.

Moseley, 32, has pitched in parts of seven seasons at the major league level. He was originally drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the first round (34th overall pick) of the 2000 draft. Going into the 2004 series he was regarded as the Reds No. 1 prospect according to Baseball America, and that season he was traded from the Reds to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in exchange for Ramon Ortiz.

Moseley made his major league debut in 2006 with the Angels, and was with the club in the majors until the 2009 season. He signed as a free agent with the New York Yankees and pitched in 16 games making nine starts that season going 4-4 with a 4.96 ERA. In 2011 he signed with the San Diego Padres as a free agent, and posted a career-low 3.30 ERA in 20 starts where he was 3-10 with San Diego. He last pitched in the majors in 2012 where he made one start with San Diego as he continued to battle shoulder injuries.

In parts of seven seasons pitching at the MLB level, Moseley is 15-21 with a 4.67 ERA in 101 games pitched and 53 starts. In 358 and a third innings he has struck out 199 batters compared to 117 walks. Moseley is a former Southern League pitcher, pitching for the Chattanooga Lookouts from 2002-04. In his three seasons with the then-Reds affiliate Lookouts, he was 13-14 with a 3.70 ERA in 39 starts.

In a corresponding move, right-handed starting pitcher Scott Lyman has been transferred from the Suns to High-A Jupiter. Earlier this season Lyman made 17 starts with the Hammerheads, going 4-8 with a 3.03 ERA in 98 innings on the mound. Lyman was a Florida State League Midseason All-Star, going 3-5 in the first half with a 2.88 ERA.

The Suns roster now stands at 25 active players, and a revised roster is attached.

Tonight Moseley will be opposed by Birmingham right-hander Miles Jaye (1-9, 6.59 ERA).

Suns fans can listen to Friday's game on the Suns Baseball Network, 94.1 WSOS-FM or through www.jaxsuns.com, MiLB.com or the Suns iPhone or Android app, beginning at 6:50 p.m. ET with the Memorial Hospital Suns Pregame Show.

The 2014 season of Suns baseball is presented by EverBank, the official banking partner of the Jacksonville Suns. Sponsorships, group outings, and season / individual game tickets are currently available by calling the Suns front office at (904) 358-2846.
