Stingrays Add Defenseman Lee Moffie to 2014-15 Roster

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays have signed defenseman Lee Moffie, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today.

Moffie, 23, spent his first professional season last year with the Denver Cutthroats of the Central Hockey League (CHL) finishing second among league rookie defenseman with 25 points (three goals, 22 assists) in 53 games. The Wallingford, Connecticut, native stood third among all first-year players with a plus-minus rating of +11. During the season, Moffie earned five appearances with the American Hockey League's (AHL) Lake Erie Monsters, netting two assists.

"I think he is going to be a great fit in the organization," mentioned Carbery. "We expect him to be very versatile in being able to play in all situations, give us something on the power play and be that dynamic defenseman you need to make plays." Prior to turning pro, Moffie skated four seasons with the University of Michigan (2009-12) picking up 74 points (22 goals, 52 assists) in 142 games and helped the Wolverines capture a Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) title in 2010. In the summer of 2010, he was selected in the seventh round (#188 overall) by the San Jose Sharks in the National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft.
