Wausau Woodchucks News Release

BATTLE CREEK, MICH - The Battle Creek Bombers capitalized on two big innings as they completed a two-game sweep of the Wiscsonsin Woodchucks, 9-5.

The Woodchucks' offense struggled to get going last evening as they did not score until the eighth, but they would have no such troubles today. Gage Green drew a one-out walk off of Bomber starter Dylan Rheault. Green later stole second, and while trying to steal third, Bomber catcher Kyle Figgins threw the ball into left field, allowing Green to score and putting the Woodchucks up 1-0.

Woodchuck started Zach Wendorf was effective through the first two innings, but the lefty ran into trouble in the third. After Wendorf quickly recorded the first two outs, a ball was misplayed by Woodchuck second baseman Jim Correnti allowing Colin Willis to reach. The next six batters all reached as the Bombers scored six runs against Wendorf, although all of the runs were unearned after the error by Correnti.

The Woodchucks capitalized on several Bombers errors to cut into the Bomber lead in the fourth. Brendon Hayden reached on an error by first baseman Kody Carson and went to third on a throwing error by Rheault. With Hayden on third, Jacob Jelmini picked up an RBI on a base hit to left. Jelmini would later score on an RBI single by Jim Correnti with the bases loaded to cut the lead to 6-3. However the Woodchucks would strand the bases loaded and squander an opportunity.

The Woodchucks would cut even deeper into the Bomber lead in the sixth. With the bases loaded and one out, Brooks Braga singled followed by a Gage Green hit by pitch to bring in Chevas Numata and Mike Bernal and making it a 6-5 game. The Woodchucks would once again leave the bases loaded, though.

The Bombers would answer the Woodchuck rally by extending their lead in the sixth. Two runs scored on an dropped pop out by right fielder Brian Smith and one more scored on an RBI triple by Colin Willis, making it a 9-5 Bomber lead.

The Woodchucks will head back home tomorrow night to take on the Madison Mallards at 6:35 at Athletic Park.
