Alexandria Beetles News Release

St. Cloud, Minnesota - Jimmy Pickens and Dylan Raper each went 2-2, and the Beetles scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning, as Alexandria (3-8) broke a seven game losing streak with a resounding 11-5 victory over the St. Cloud Rox (5-6).

Caleb DeLee earned the victory for the Beetles in relief, retiring one batter in the sixth after the Rox had rallied to tie the game at five. Alexandria responded with five runs in the top of the seventh, and relievers Alex Guilford and Anthony Bazzani closed out the win with three lights-out innings.

Will Flor took the loss, surrendering five runs in just a third of an inning.

The Rox committed four more errors to run their series total to 12.

For the second straight game, the Beetles jumped on the board in the top of the first. Will Fulmer walked to lead off the game, extending his season-opening on-base streak to 11. He was sacrificed to second and moved to third on a wild pitch, scoring on a ground ball.

With two outs, Jimmy Pickens, Ben Moore, Matt Beaty, Dylan Raper and Jared Musgrove all reached to plate two more runs before Raper was thrown out at third trying to advance on Musgrove's single as the Beetles took a 3-0 lead.

Nick Berhel, in his second start of the year, secured the Beetles advantage putting up a pair of zeros in the bottom of the first and second, and Alexandria extended the lead in the top of the third on a two-run double by Raper.

St. Cloud pulled one back on a delayed steal of home in the bottom of the third, and after Berhel was removed with five innings of one-run ball under his belt, the Rox exploded against the Beetle bullpen. In the bottom of the sixth, St. Cloud scored four runs on four walks and two hits to tie the game.

But the Beetles would not be denied their first win in a week. David Garcia started the inning with a ringing double to left and pinch hitter Josh Guerra reached on an error to put runners on the corners with no outs. Moore sacrificed home Garcia on a fly to center as Alexandria regained the lead. A walk to Beaty and double by Raper extended the advantage to two, and Josh Carpenter, Fulmer and Tanner Vavra each delivered RBIs as the Beetles doubled up the Rox 10-5.

Alexandria pushed home an insurance run in the ninth for the 11-5 final.

The Beetles are off on Sunday before continuing their 11 game road trip on Monday in Mankato.
