Dragons Walk Off in Extras 4-3

(Dayton, OH) - The Dayton Dragons (25-35) defeated the Lake County Captains (28-31) in eleven innings on Thursday Night in Dayton, Ohio. The bases were loaded in the eleventh and there were two outs. The hitter was Kurtis Muller for Dayton. Muller lined a single to right field past a diving Todd Hankins and The Dragons beat Lake County 4-3.

The Captains scored a run in the top of the first inning when Luigi Rodriguez tripled down the Right Field line to start the ballgame. He quickly scored on a single by Francisco Lindor and Lake County lead the ballgame 1-0.

Lake County tacked on two more in the second inning. Todd Hankins tripled and scored on a Leonardo Castillo ground out and then Zach MacPhee unloaded his first professional homerun to right field and the Captains led 3-1.

Dayton got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning. Brandon Dailey walked to lead off and moved to second on an Error, Kurtis Muller was hit by a pitch and then was eliminated on a 4-6-3 double play and Dailey moved down to third. Dailey scored on a two out single by Steve Selsky and the score was 3-1 Captains heading to the fifth inning.

Dayton scored another run in the bottom half of the seventh inning. Back- to - back doubles by Kyle Waldrop and Sean Buckley led off the inning, and cut the lead to 3-2. Buckley was later put out at the plate trying to score the tying run. The Captains wiggled out of the seventh inning with the lead intact 3-2.

Lake County couldn't wiggle off the hook in the ninth. Sean Buckley doubled to begin the inning, and then moved to third on an infield single. Junior Arias tried to bunt and ran out of the batters box and made contact with the ball in play so he was out. Then Brandon Dailey grounded a slowly hit ball to short and beat the relay throw to first as Buckley scored to tie the game at 3-3, and the game was pushed to extra innings.

RHP Stalin Gerson (3-4) was the starter for the Dragons. Gerson pitched five innings allowing five hits, three runs, all earned, he walked one and struck out two. He surrendered the homer to MacPhee. Cole Green relieved him in the sixth inning and went three innings of scoreless baseball. He walked one and struck out three, and allowed just one hit. Carlos Contreras entered in the ninth inning for Dayton. Contreras struck out the first two but then gave up two singles and there were runners at the corners and two outs and then walked the next hitter. Jordan Smith grounded out to shortstop to end the threat. James Allen (2-2) entered the ballgame for Dayton in the eleventh inning, an retired the side in order to earn the win.

LHP Shawn Morimando (1-1) got the start and the no decision for the Captains. Morimando twirled five innings and allowed just three hits, one earned run and walked only one and fanned one. Luis DeJesus entered the game and pitched three innings allowing five hits, one earned run, he walked one and struck out four. Jeff Johnson pitched the ninth for Lake County and allowed the tying run to score. It was Johnson's second blown save at Dayton this season. Rob Nixon (entered the game for Lake County in the tenth inning, Nixon took the loss after pitching 1.2 innings and allowing two hits, two walks and one earned run all in the eleventh.

The Captains will be back in action Friday night in Dayton, Ohio. On Friday, The Captains will send RHP Felix Sterling (2-5, 5.86) to the mound against RHP Jacob Johnson (0-1, 2.57) for Dayton. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 PM. This is the final road trip of the first half for Lake County. After the ballgame in Dayton, the Captains will travel to Lansing, Michigan for three game against the Lugnuts and then will return home.
