Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LANCASTER, CA - Domingo Santana hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to put the JetHawks on the board but they were not heard from again in a 5-1 loss against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Monday night at The Epicenter.

Starting pitcher Ruben Alaniz (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season allowing four runs on nine hits in 6 2/3 innings. Alaniz did not strike out a batter or issue a walk.

The Quakes scored their first run in the second inning when Austin Gallagher and C.J. Retherford hit back-to-back doubles to lead off the inning.

In the top of the fourth, the JetHawks put themselves in position to get on the board and take a lead. Adam Bailey walked to start the inning and Santana doubled to put runners at second and third with no out. Starter John Michael Redding focused in.

Redding struck out Erik Castro and Telvin Nash, both on three pitches, and induced an inning-ending fly out off the bat of Jonathan Meyer to end the inning.

After the Quakes added another run in the bottom of the fifth, Santana hit his home run to get the JetHawks within one run. Momentum did not stay on their side for long.

Brian Cavazos-Galvez hit a solo home run in the sixth to counter Santana's long ball. Then in the seventh Leon Landry doubled in a run to end Alaniz's night. Andrew Robinson entered the game and allowed a run in the eighth on a Gallagher RBI-double.

Redding picked up the win in his best outing of the season. He tossed seven innings of one-run ball with four strike outs and just one walk. Steve Smith pitched two perfect innings to pick up his second save.

The JetHawks (18-20) and the Quakes (18-20) move into a three-way tie for third place in the South Division. Game two of the three game series is Tuesday night at 7:05 pm at The Epicenter. David Martinez (0-2, 6.19) will start against Garrett Gould (0-3, 4.91).

The JetHawks will return home on May 20 to begin a three game series with the High Desert Mavericks. Great JetHawks ticket packages and single game tickets are on sale now. Special group discounts are also available. For more information please visit www.jethawks.com or call the JetHawks box office at (661) 726-5400.
