Tacoma Rainiers News Release
TACOMA, Wash. - Luis Jimenez collected two hits and drove in five runs as the Tacoma Rainiers rolled to a 9-1 win over the Round Rock Express at Cheney Stadium on Saturday.
The Rainiers have now won a season-high three consecutive games since a season-high seven game losing streak. May 4-10.
Jimenez broke up a scoreless game and gave Tacoma an insurmountable 4-0 lead after hitting the Rainiers first grand slam of the season with one out in the bottom of the third inning. The designated hitter has now hit safely in each of his last 12 games with four home runs and 17 RBI over the streak - the longest compiled by a Rainiers player this season.
Jimenez helped the Rainiers record another four-run frame in the fifth. Catcher Brandon Bantz's sacrifice fly and a two-run single hit by Luis Rodriguez accounted for the first three runs. Jimenez added a fourth with a two-out RBI-single.
Tacoma combined to collect nine hits against the Express on Sunday, with Johan Limonta and Brandon Bantz also chipping in two-hit efforts. Luis Rodriguez hit a two-RBI single in the fourth and has now hit safely in each of his last 10 games.
Starter Anthony Vasquez (4-2) picked up his team-leading fourth win of the season after holding the Express to one run on seven hits and striking out three over 6.0 innings. Relievers Josh Kinney and Stephen Pryor combined to toss 3.0 shutout frames out of the bullpen.
The Rainiers (14-23) play the third leg of the club's four-game series with Round Rock (17-21) on Monday, May 14. Right-hander Jeff Marquez (2-3, 6.06) is scheduled to start for Tacoma against Express left-hander Martin Perez (3-2, 3.98). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
