Aeros Fall to B-Mets, Recap and Box

May 3, 2012 - Eastern League (EL1)
Akron RubberDucks News Release

Akron, OH - Binghamton's Raul Reyes slugged a three-run homer in the first inning Wednesday, providing a spark for the Mets, who avoided a sweep with a 7-3 win over the Akron Aeros at Canal Park.

The first-place Aeros (17-7) saw their eight-game winning streak come to an end, but won six of seven games on the homestand. The Aeros are 11-3 at Canal Park.

The B-Mets (13-13) took advantage of a walk and a fielding error in the first inning. Both came with two outs. Aeros starter Mason Radeke (1-1) walked Reese Havens. The next hitter, Jefry Marte, hit a sharp grounder to shortstop Juan Diaz, who misplayed the ball for an error. Reyes then stepped to the plate and homered over the right field wall for a 3-0 B-Mets lead.

The Mets tacked on four more against righthander Jose De La Torre, and held a 7-0 lead heading to the 8th.

Mets starter Collin McHugh (4-2) cruised through the first seven innings. The Aeros finally broke through in the eighth inning, and forced McHugh out of the game. Tim Fedroff, Juan Diaz and Jared Goedert all had RBI hits in the inning to make it 7-3.

Erik Turgeon and Robert Carson came on to put out the fire, and combined to retire the final five Aeros hitters of the game.

The Aeros will begin a three-game series at Bowie on Friday night at 7:05. LHP Eric Berger (0-3, 5.09) will start for Akron. LHP Jacob Petit (3-0, 2.96) will take the ball for Bowie. The Aeros will return to Canal Park on Monday, May 7th, against Erie. All Aeros games are broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM and online at www.akronaeros.com.
