Defensive Mistakes Doom Baysox

Richmond, VA - The Bowie Baysox (11-16) made two errors, allowed three unearned runs and one run on a wild pitch in a 6-2 loss to the Richmond Flying Squirrels (13-14) on Thursday night.
The Flying Squirrels struck first in the second inning. Daniel Mayora led off with a double and scored with one out when Juan Perez reached on an error by Manny Machado. With two outs in the inning, Johnny Monell walked and then Joel Weeks hit a two-run double to give Richmond a 3-0 lead. All three runs in the inning were unearned.
In the fifth, the Baysox got one run back. Robbie Widlansky led off the inning by reaching on an error. Then with two outs, Widlansky stole second and scored on a single by Carlos Rojas to cut the lead to 3-1.
The Baysox got another run in the sixth inning. L.J. Hoes extended his hitting streak to nine games by hitting a one-out single to left. With two outs in the inning, Hoes stole second and then Manny Machado knocked him in with a double to get the Baysox within a run, 3-2.
In the seventh, Richmond added a couple insurance runs. Ehire Adrianza led off with a single and went to third on a failed pick off attempt by Pedro Viola. Monell then knocked him in with a single to right. After Joel Weeks singled, Viola threw two wild pitches that allowed Monell to score and give the Squirrels a 5-2 lead.
Wendall Fairly hit a two-out RBI single that scored Chris Dominguez in the eighth to extend the lead to 6-2.
Craig Westcott picked up his second win of the season. He went six innings and allowed just two runs, one earned on six hits with three strikeouts and no walks.
Bobby Bundy got the loss for the Baysox. He went six innings and allowed three unearned runs on four hits with seven strikeouts.
The Baysox return home on tomorrow for a three-game homestand against the Akron Aeros that includes two fireworks nights.
LHP Jake Pettit (3-0, 2.96) will get the start for the Baysox and go up against LHP Eric Berger (0-3, 5.09).
