Knights Drop Finale to Chiefs 12-4 on Monday

(Syracuse, NY) - Syracuse starter John Lannan (2-2, 5.19) allowed just one run over seven innings, Jarret Hoffpauir had two hits and three RBIs and the Syracuse Chiefs beat the Charlotte Knights on Monday evening 12-4 in the finale of their four-game series from Alliance Bank Stadium.

The Knights entered the game with a chance to win their first road series of the season. After splitting the doubleheader on Saturday and winning Sunday's contest 5-2, the Knights sent starter LHP Charlie Leesman to the hill in Monday's finale with hopes of a series win.

Leesman (1-3, 3.68) allowed five runs - all unearned in 1.2 innings to take the loss. He allowed all five runs in the first inning after an Ozzie Martinez fielding error. Martinez and Tyler Kuhn each committed four errors. The Knights committed a total of eight errors in Monday's game -- setting a 2012 season high. Their previous high was five.

Charlotte designated hitter Josh Phegley extended his hit-streak to 13 games with a double in the second inning. He finished the game 1-4 with an RBI and a run scored. He's now batting .382 on the season.

Jordan Danks added three hits for the Knights and Greg Golson extended his hit streak to nine games with an eighth inning RBI single.

The Knights will now travel to Allentown, PA to begin a four-game series with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Tuesday evening. LHP Eric Stults (1-1, 2.08) will get the start for the Knights in game one against 'Pigs starter Scott Elarton (1-1, 4.12). First pitch at Coca-Cola Park is set for 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday.
