Dragons Lose in Beloit 7-0

Beloit, Wisc.-Jason Wheeler tossed six scoreless innings, retiring the last 14 batters he faced, as the Beloit Snappers defeated the Dayton Dragons 7-0 on Monday afternoon. The Snappers won two-out-of-three in the series and dropped the Dragons to 12-13 on the season. Dayton completed a six-game road trip with a 2-4 record.

Wheeler (3-0) allowed two hits and one walk while striking out seven. He allowed just one runner to reach second base. Three Beloit relievers each pitched one scoreless inning to close out the Snappers win.

The Snappers scored single runs in the second, third, and fourth innings to build a 3-0 lead, then added four more in the seventh to take command of the game. Rory Rhodes had a double and drove in three runs to lead an 11-hit Beloit attack. Miguel Sano had two hits and two runs batted in.

Dragons starting pitcher Stalin Gerson worked the first five innings, allowing six hits and three runs with two walks and two strikeouts. He suffered the loss and fell to 1-2 on the year. Dragons pitchers had allowed four runs or less in nine straight games prior to Monday's loss.

The Dragons finished with five hits. Juan Perez was 2 for 4. Brandon Dailey and Danny Vicioso each had a double.

The Dragons do not play on Tuesday. They return home to Fifth Third Field on Wednesday to host the Lake County Captains at 7:00 p.m. Justice French (3-1, 2.60) will start for Dayton against Lake County's Felix Sterling (0-0, 3.60).
