FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Jeremy Hefner, who starred as a starting pitcher for the 2008 Fort Wayne Wizards, made his Major League Baseball debut with the New York Mets on Monday, April 23. Hefner becomes the 108th player to reach the major leagues after making a stop in Fort Wayne. In 2008, the right-hander went 10-5, with a 3.33 ERA in 29 games, 24 of which were starts. Hefner was Fort Wayne's winningest pitcher in his one season in the Summit City, being the only hurler on the staff that year to achieve double digit victories.
On Monday, Hefner was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo by the Mets and pitched in game one of a doubleheader against the San Francisco Giants. The Oklahoma native worked three scoreless innings, allowing three hits and walking one batter. After the game, he was optioned back to Triple-A.
