Big inning sends Kernels to 8-3 loss at Dayton

Dayton, Ohio - The Dragons scored five runs in the seventh inning as Dayton topped the Kernels 8-3 on Monday evening. Dayton's Juan Perez got the scoring started in the third inning with a two RBI double down the right field line, giving the Dragons a 2-0 advantage.

The Kernels cut the Dragons lead to 2-1 in the fifth inning when Andy Workman scored on an infield RBI single by Ryan Jones. The Kernels took a 3-2 lead in the sixth inning. With runners at first and second base, Frazier Hall's RBI single to right field scored Trevor Hairgrove to tie the game.. Dayton's right fielder Kyle Waldrop committed a fielding error in right field, allowing Kaleb Cowart to score all the way from first base and give the Kernels a one run lead.

Dayton evened the score 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning on Yovan Gonzalez's RBI single that plated Waldrop. Ryan Crowley started for the Kernels and went 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits. He struck out five and walked one.

Dayton brought nine men to the plate in the seventh inning and scored five runs to take an 8-3 lead. Steve Selsky's two RBI single scored Ryan Wright and Danny Vicioso. Two batters later, Junior Arias laced a two RBI triple off the way in center to score Selsky and Waldrop. Yovan Gonzalez then followed with a RBI single to score Arias

Logan Odom (0-1) took the loss in relief, going 0.2 inning and allowing two runs on two hits. He struck out one and walked one. Carmine Giardina pitched 0.2 inning and allowed three runs on three hits while striking out two and walking one. Frank DeJiulio pitched one scoreless inning, allowing no hits while striking out none and walking one.

Dan Jensen (1-2) got the win in relief for Dayton as he threw two scoreless innings and allowed three hits. Jimmy Moran pitched a scoreless ninth inning. Daniel Tuttle started for the Dragons and went six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits. He struck out four and walked none.

The Kernels conclude the series at Dayton and the nine game road trip on Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. (7:00 p.m. eastern). The Kernels return home on Thursday, April 26 at 6:35 p.m. vs. South Bend. There is a promotion during all 12 of the Kernels April home games.
