Pedrotty Earns First Win, Hawks Down Rattlers 8-1

SOUTH BEND - Chris Ellison and Marc Bourgeois hit solo home runs and John Pedrotty tossed six shutout innings as the South Bend Silver Hawks (10-8) defeated the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 6-1 at Coveleski Stadium. The Silver Hawks have now won a season-best three games in a row.
Pedrotty (1-0) earned the win and allowed just five hits over the six scoreless innings. The left-hander walked one and struck out five. Mark Williams (0-2) allowed four earned runs on six hits over four innings and was hit with the loss for Wisconsin.
Ellison hit a solo home run to right field in the sixth inning and Bourgeois followed with a solo blast in the seventh. Fidel Pena went 4-for-4 with an RBI for the Silver Hawks, who outhit the Timber Rattlers 14-6. Tom Belza got the scoring started in the first inning with an RBI triple, extending his hitting streak to eight games. The Hawks scored three more in the second inning to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Ender Inciarte singled in a run and later scored on Chris Ellison's two-RBI double to rightfield. Inciarte finished 2-for-4 with two RBI while Ellison went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a walk.
Pena's fourth hit was an RBI single in the seventh inning to give the Hawks an 8-1 advantage. Left-hander Taylor Siemens tossed two innings out of the Hawks bullpen and allowed one earned run on a hit. Kable Hogben tossed a scoreless ninth to preserve the win.
Seth Lintz pitched the final four innings for Wisconsin and allowed four earned runs on eight hits, including the two home runs.
Greg Hopkins knocked in Wisconsin's only run of the game on a double in the seventh inning. Yuniel Rivera was 2-for-4 with a double for the Rattlers.
The Silver Hawks and Rattlers play the final game of the three-game series Tuesday at Coveleski Stadium.
First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. EST. Jesse Darrah (1-1, 5.40) starts for South Bend and will be opposed by right-hander David Goforth (2-0, 3.86). Tickets are available for purchase by calling 235-9988 or by visiting www.silverhawks.com.
