Dayton, Ohio - The Kernels shut out the Dragons 2-0 on Sunday afternoon. Eswarlin Jimenez and Joe Melioris combined to pitch nine innings, only giving up four hits. Joe Melioris (1-0) picked up the win in five innings of relief, allowing two hits while striking out two and walking none. Eswarlin Jimenez got the spot start and went four innings. He allowed two hits while striking out six and walking none.

The Kernels plated a run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Trevor Hairgrove led off the game with a double. He scored two batters later on a RBI groundout by Kaleb Cowart. The Kernels doubled their lead in the fourth inning as they took a 2-0 advantage. Gary Mitchell walked, went to second base on a single by Chevy Clarke, and took third base on a passed ball by Dragons catcher Nick O'Shea. Mitchell then scored on a RBI sacrifice fly to left field by Andy Workman.

Radhames Quezada (0-2) took the loss for Dayton, despite going seven innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits. Brooks Pinckard pitched two innings in relief and allowed no runs on no hits while striking out two.

The Kernels continue the series at Dayton on Monday evening at 6:00 p.m. (7:00 p.m. eastern). The Kernels return home on April 26 at 6:35 p.m. vs. South Bend. There is a promotion during all 12 of the Kernels April home games.
