South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
SOUTH BEND - Ender Inciarte laced a walk-off RBI double in the tenth inning Sunday to send the South Bend Silver Hawks (9-8) to a 2-1 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in the first game of a three-game series at Coveleski Stadium.
Through 17 games the Silver Hawks are 3-0 in extra-inning games and have notched two-walk off wins on the season.
Right-hander D.J. Johnson (1-1) tossed a perfect tenth and got the win in relief. Wisconsin's Seth Lintz (0-1) was hit with the loss, allowing one earned run on two hits over a third of an inning. The Silver Hawks trailed 1-0 entering the last of the ninth inning, before rallying to tie the game against left-hander Stephen Peterson. Marc Bourgeois started things by beating out an infield single with one out.
Bobby Stone reached on an error by Wisconsin third baseman Brandon Macias and Roidany Aguila was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Niko Gallego hit a potential double-play ball to second, but hustled down the line to prevent the twin-killing. Bourgeois scored from third on the RBI fielder's choice, before Bobby Stone was thrown out at home trying to score the winning run from second.
After Johnson retired the Timber Rattlers in order in the tenth inning, the Hawks got to work against Lintz. With one down, Chris Ellison singled to left and subsequently stole second. Moments later, Inciarte delivered the game-winner.
Jeff Shields went seven innings for a third straight start and allowed just one earned run on four hits over seven innings. The right-hander got a no decision and lowered his ERA to 1.38. Righty Drew Gagnon tossed six scoreless frames for Wisconsin and allowed just three hits.
Ellison finished 2-for-5 and scored the game-winning run while Inicarte went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles.
Max Walla and Carlos George each went 2-for-4 to pace the Timber Rattlers offense. George knock in the Rattlers only run with a single in the second inning.
The Silver Hawks and Rattlers continue the three-game series tomorrow night at Coveleski Stadium.
Left-hander John Pedrotty (0-0, 4.11 ERA) starts for South Bend and he will be opposed by right-hander Mark Williams (0-1, 2.77 ERA). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. EST. Tickets are available for purchase by calling 235-9988 or online at www.silverhawks.com.
