Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - Danny Mateo's RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning was all the Kane County Cougars needed to pull off a 1-0 victory over the Lake County Captains on Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.
Lane Adams walked with one out in the seventh inning against reliever Mason Radeke (1-1) to bring Mateo to the dish. With the count full, Adams bolted for second as Mateo sent a line drive into the right-field corner, scoring Adams all the way from first.
That would be the only run of the contest as both starting pitchers allowed nothing. Edwin Carl (1-1) tossed seven innings while surrendering five hits and walking just one. Carl's biggest trouble came in the sixth when Lake County (4-13) put runners on second and third with one out. Carl got Francisco Lindor to bounce back to the mound while Alex Monsalve fouled out to the end the threat.
Elvis Araujo worked five scoreless frames while the Cougars (9-8) stranded seven runners with Araujo on the mound. Nick Graffeo (S, 4) pitched the final two innings for the Cougars and worked around a pair of walks and a single to keep the Captains off the board.
The Cougars take on the Captains at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark with a 12:00 p.m. first pitch on Monday afternoon. Right-hander Kellen Moen (0-1) starts for the Cougars against fellow righty Will Roberts (1-1). Tickets are available by calling the Cougars' box office at (630) 232-8811 or by visiting www.kccougars.com. You can also listen to the broadcast on AM 1280 WBIG and www.kccougars.com with Cougars on Deck beginning at 11:45 a.m.
