Parker, Bullpen Combine for Two-Hitter; River Cats Beat Aces, 6-0

April 22, 2012 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) - Sacramento River Cats News Release

RENO, Nev. - A's top prospect Jarrod Parker and four River Cats relievers combined on a two-hitter Saturday night, leading Sacramento to a 6-0 win over the Reno Aces in the series opener at Aces Ballpark.

Parker struck out four in just 2.2 innings of work, and the River Cats bullpen did the rest. Neil Wagner, Erick Threets, Jim Miller and Merkin Valdez combined to surrender just a single hit over the game's final 6.1 innings, keeping the Aces off the scoreboard and helping Sacramento coast to the series-opening victory. Threets was credited with the win, improving to 3-0 on the young season.

Two River Cats players-Brandon Hicks and Stephen Parker-hit their first home runs of the season Saturday, paving the way for an 11-hit outburst from Sacramento. Derek Norris finished two-for-four with an RBI, and Chris Carter drove in two runs for the Cats.

The loss fell to Aces starter Chris Jakubauskas (1-3), who allowed five earned runs and 10 hits in 5.2 innings of work.

All nine River Cats hitters recorded at least one base hit Saturday, as Sacramento improved to 4-1 in series openers this season.

The two teams battle again on Sunday afternoon, with River Cats RHP Bruce Billings (0-0, 3.00 ERA) taking the ball against Aces RHP Joe Martinez (0-2, 4.42 ERA). First pitch from Aces Ballpark is set for 1:05 p.m.

The River Cats return home on Thursday, April 26, for a 7:05 p.m. Miller Lite Thirsty Thursday, which is also Agricultural Night. Thursday's game will be against the Tucson Padres, and will open an eight-game homestand at Raley Field.
