Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Bowling Green, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (11-5) sweep attempt fell short on Saturday night at Bowling Green Ballpark, falling to the Cedar Rapids Kernels (8-8) 4-3 in 11 innings. Jeff Malm's RBI-single tied the score at three in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Kevin Moesquit singled home a run in the top of the 11th to lift his team to the win. Ryan Brett, Jeff Malm, and Alejandro Segovia all had two hits in the loss for Bowling Green.

All three of Bowling Green's runs were driven in during two-out, runners-in-scoring-position situations. Jeff Malm drove in his runs in the first to give the Hot Rods a 1-0 lead and in the fifth to tie the score. The other RBI on the night belonged to Todd Glaesmann, who drove in a run in all three games in the series.

Bowling Green starter Jake Floethe continued his solid beginning to 2012, allowing three runs in five innings. Despite allowing a season-high in runs, Floethe has still allowed just four earned runs in 21 innings pitched. Floethe has played a big part in the Hot Rods taking two of three from Great Lakes and Cedar Rapids in the first two series of this season-long, nine-game homestand.

The decisive play in the game occurred in the top of the eleventh when Kevin Moesquit drove in his sixth run of the season, an RBI-single that scored Andy Workman. Austin Hubbard received his first loss of the season in his three frames of relief where he only allowed two hits. Despite the loss, the Hot Rods are still taking part in their best start in franchise history, winning 11 of 16.

Bowling Green continues its longest homestand of the season on Sunday when the team welcomes the Quad Cities River Bandits (Future Cardinals) to town for a 5:05 PM contest. Hot Rods LHP Felipe Rivero (2-1, 0.00) gets the start for Bowling Green, while Quad Cities will counter with LHP Dail Villanueva (1-1, 5.56).

Join Hank Fuerst for the Forever Communications Pre-Game Show at 4:45 PM on the flagship station for the Hot Rods Radio Network, 1340-AM "The Ticket". Tune in to the game online at 1340wbgn.com.

Sunday's game will feature a Print Media Team Poster giveaway to the first 1,000 fans and a Smucker's Uncrustables Fun Run where kids can run the bases post-game. For ticket information, call the Hot Rods at (270)-901-2121 or log on to www.BGHotRods.com.
