Las Vegas Wranglers News Release

In a battle until the end, the Las Vegas Wranglers won 3-2 over the Idaho Steelheads in overtime Tuesday night to take a 2-0 series lead in the Western Conference Semifinals.

Both Wranglers goaltender Mitch O'Keefe (5-0-0) and Steelheads goaltender Jerry Kuhn (3-2-1) held the first period scoreless as Las Vegas outshot Idaho 12-8. Four minutes into the second, Wranglers left wing Josh Lunden scored the first goal of the game to give the team a 1-0 lead. Midway through the period, Steelheads forward Cody Purves tallied a goal to tie the game 1-1, but Wranglers left wing Pete MacArthur responded three minutes later to regain the one-goal lead for Las Vegas.

The Wranglers had almost clinched the 2-1 win when, with 1:52 left in regulation, Steelheads forward Joe Pereira chipped a rebound past O'Keefe to once again tie the game. Las Vegas was forced into overtime for the first time in the 2012 Kelly Cup playoffs, and it only took 91 seconds for Wranglers center Scott Campbell to score on Kuhn. With a final score of 3-2, the Wranglers took game two from the Steelheads after outshooting them 45-30.

Las Vegas hits the road to Boise for game three on Thursday, April 19, with a 2-0 series lead. The best-of-seven series returns to Orleans Arena on April 24 and 25 for games six and seven if necessary.
