Everblades Receive Shugg from Charlotte; Sign Goaltender Venti to ATO

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades announced Wednesday that rookie forward Justin Shugg has been reassigned to the team by the Carolina Hurricanes (NHL) from the Charlotte Checkers (AHL). Additionally, the team has signed goaltender Chris Venti to an Amateur Tryout Contract (ATO).

Shugg returns to the Blades having posted 13 points (5g, 8a) in 33 games with the Checkers this season. The 5-9, 194-pound forward totaled 12 points (4g, 8a) in 11 games with the Everblades this season. Shugg was named the Sher-wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for the week of October 17-23.

The Niagara Falls, Ontario native was a member of Windsor Spitfires back-to-back Memorial Cup Championship teams in 2009 & 2010. Shugg is fourth-round selection of the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Venti joins the Blades after recently concluding his four-year collegiate career at Boston College posting a 1-1 record, a 2.18 goals against average and a .897 save percentage. The 6-0, 175-pound goaltender earned a win in his first career start in a 2-1 win over Northeastern played Fenway Park in Boston. was a teammate of current Everblades goaltender John Muse.

The Everblades will play host to the Elmira Jackals in Game Four of the Eastern Conference Semifinals tonight at Germain Arena. Game time is set for 7:35 p.m.
