Tourists Provide Entertaining Encore; Win 12-7

Asheville Tourists News Release
Asheville defeated West Virginia 12-7 on Tuesday night, giving the Tourists five straight wins over the Power and five straight overall. The game remained close until Asheville broke out with a seven-run seventh inning. The Tourists plated seven runs in an inning for the second straight game and also had a player connect with a Grand Slam for the second consecutive night.
Chris Jensen (1-0, 3.31) earned the victory for the Tourists by pitching 6.1 innings and allowing only two earned runs. Jensen struck out six while issuing just one walk. The Tourists opened with a slow start offensively, but in the sixth inning the bats woke up.
West Virginia scored the game's first run in the fourth. Willy Garcia singled home Jose Osuna from second. The Power added one more in the fifth on Kirk Singer's RBI single to center.
Matt Benedict (0-0, 1.15) allowed a pair of runs to Asheville in the sixth after throwing five scoreless innings. Brian Humphries doubled down the line in right with Herrera at third, and Humphries later scored on a Harold Riggins single to center.
In the seventh, the Power went to their bullpen and the Tourists were relentless. The first two batters of the inning walked, and Swanner was then hit by a pitch. Herrera drew a walk with the bases loaded and the Tourists led 3-2. Delta Cleary Jr. then singled to right making it 4-2. The next two batters were sat down, but Riggins was then hit by a pitch; forcing in another run.
The next batter for Asheville was David Kandilas. AThe Tourists right-fielder cleared the bases by driving one over the left field wall for a Grand Slam. Asheville led 9-2 heading to the bottom of the inning.
The Power plated two unearned runs in their half of the seventh, but Asheville tacked on three more in the ninth. Swanner drove in two with a double and Cleary Jr. added another RBI single. West Virginia rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth, but it was not enough as the Tourists notched their eighth win in nine days.
Asheville looks to sweep West Virginia for the second time this season on Wednesday. The first pitch is scheduled for 11:05am.
