Greenville Builds Early Leads, Wins 10-6 Over Legends

The Drive scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Leadoff batter Cody Koback walked, and moved around to third when pitcher Tanner Bushue threw the ball past second for an error after fielding Blake Swihart's grounder. Garin Cecchini's single scored Koback and moved Swihart to second. After Boss Moanaroa was called out on strikes, Henry Ramos doubled to right field, scoring Swihart and Cecchini.

In the top of the second inning, Jose Vinicio reached first on Bushue's fielding error. Koback singled, and Swihart followed with a homer into the left field bleachers, giving Greenville a 6-0 lead.

The Legends began a comeback in the fourth when Jordan Scott walked and Zach Johnson homered. The two runs batted in gave Johnson 16 RBI for the year, tying him with Hagerstown's Matt Skole for the South Atlantic League lead.

Moanaroa's fifth-inning homer made it 7-2 Greenville, but the Legends came back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Roberto Pena walked and scored on Jimmy Howick's double. Howick moved to third on a single by Delino DeShields Jr. DeShields stole second, and Justin Gominsky walked, loading the bases. Scott grounded into a force play at second as Howick scored, and DeShields came home when Vinicio, the shortstop, committed a throwing error when trying to complete a double play.

The Legends moved to within one run in the sixth. Emilio King singled and went to second on an errant pickoff attempt by Greenville reliever Matty Ott. After Pena walked, King went to third on a wild pitch and scored as Howick hit into a double play, leaving the score at 7-6.

Greenville added to its margin with three runs in the ninth. Ramos singled with one out and Keury De La Cruz hit a two-run homer. Bryan Johns was hit by a pitch, moved to third on a single by Jordan Weems and scored as Vinicio grounded into a force play at second.

Bushue (0-3), the Lexington starter, worked the first two innings and took the loss. Ott (1-1), who relieved starter Henry Owens in the fifth, pitched three innings and allowed one run in picking up the win.

Each team has won one game in the series which concludes with a 10:05 a.m. game Wednesday.
