RiverDogs Outlast GreenJackets 7-3 in 11

CHARLESTON, SC - The first extra inning game of the year for the Charleston RiverDogs was a good one as they won their fourth straight game, and sixth out of their last seven, with a 7-3 win in 11 innings over the Augusta GreenJackets on Tuesday night. With the win, Charleston advances to 9-3 on the year, while Augusta falls to 5-8. The RiverDogs also maintain their first place standing in the South Atlantic League Southern Division by half a game.

Ben Gamel (2-6, 2 RBI's) doubled home Reymond Nunez and Mason Williams with two outs in the third inning to put the RiverDogs up 2-0. That was the score until the 7th inning when Augusta plated 3 off Charleston reliever Wilton Rodriguez to take a 3-2 lead.

Dante Bichette, Jr. tied it for Charleston with an RBI single in the 8th scoring Mason Williams. Philip Wetherell pitched a scoreless 9th and 10th, then the RiverDogs offense exploded for four runs in the 11th on four hits and two costly Augusta errors. Casey Stevenson scored on a throwing error by the SS Kelby Tomlinson to put Charleston on top. An infield single by Reymond Nunez with the bases loaded scored Tyler Austin, then a two RBI single by Anderson Feliz busted it open and put the game out of reach with a four run Charleston lead. Wetherell then pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to close it out and pick up the win moving to 1-0.

Caleb Cotham got the start for Charleston, and pitched well allowing no runs on four hits with five strikeouts over four innings earning a no decision. Andrew Berger got the loss for the GreenJackets fallingto 0-1.With his 2-4 performance at the plate, Tyler Austin extended his hitting streak to eight games.

Game 3 will be on Wednesday night with RHP Bryan Mitchell (0-1, 2.25 ERA) starting for Charleston and RHP Chris Marlowe (1-0, 0.00 ERA) starting for Augusta. The RiverDogs have an opportunity to sweep Augusta with a win on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
