Hickory Crawdads News Release

HICKORY, NC - The Hickory Crawdads scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, cruising to the 7-5 win against the Kannapolis Intimidators, before 536 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Tuesday evening. With the victory, the 'Dads guarantee their third series win in the first four sets this season.

For the second straight night, Hickory (8-5) got out to an early lead in the bottom of the first against Kannapolis (6-7). CF Chris Grayson started the frame by reaching first base on an error, and quickly stole his way to second base. One out later, Grayson advanced to third on a ground out, before darting home on a wild pitch from RHP Daniel Webb (L, 0-2). LF Zach Cone then drove a solo home run over the right field wall for his second straight game with a bomb and the 2-0 lead.

After the Intimidators scored an unearned run on an RBI double by CF Keenyn Walker against LHP Victor Payano in the top of the second, the 'Dads stretched the lead right back out in the bottom of the frame. With two out and the bases empty, RF Jordan Akins crushed a solo homer, making it 3-1.

Kannapolis struck for three runs in the top of the fifth inning to take their first lead of the game. SS David Herbek led off with a double and took third on a ground out. 1B Grant Buckner then lined an RBI single to left field, plating Herbek. Buckner went from first to third on a double by C Kevan Smith, before a DH Leighton Pangilinan RBI single scored Buckner for the 3-3 tie. RHP Nick McBride (W, 2-0) took over on the mound to face 3B Rangel Ravelo, who skied an RBI sacrifice fly to left field for the Kannapolis lead, 4-3. However, McBride got out of the frame with no further damage being done.

The Crawdads responded right away in the bottom of the fifth inning. Akins sparked the comeback with a double off the left field wall and advanced to third base on a 1B Jhonny Gomez single. Grayson brought in Akins with an RBI single, moving Gomez to second and tying the game. 2B Rougned Odor then belted a two-run triple into the right-field corner, scoring Gomez and Grayson to put the 'Dads in the two-run lead, 6-4. With LHP Jefferson Olacio taking over on the mound, SS Hanser Alberto dealt the final blow of the frame with an RBI single to plate Odor for the 7-4 advantage.

Kannapolis inched closer with a run in the top of the seventh against McBride, but RHP Phil Klein and LHP Greg Williams (S, 2) combined to deal the final two frames in scoreless fashion, closing the 7-5 win for Hickory.
