April 17, 2012 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Charleston RiverDogs News Release

AUGUSTA, GA- The RiverDogs moved to 8-3 in the 2012 season with a 5-1 win over the Augusta GreenJackets on Monday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium in front 1,397 people. Jose Campos (3-0) picked up his third win in three starts in 2012 and helped the team maintain their first place standing in Southern Division of the South Atlantic League.

The RiverDogs wasted no time jumping on top in this one, scoring two runs in the first inning against Augusta's Edwin Escobar (1-1). The RiverDogs only got one hit in the inning, but it was well placed following a walk to Dante Bichette, Jr. and Tyler Austin reaching on an error. Gary Sanchez (4-5, 2 2B, 2 RBIs) followed with a RBI single and then another error by Augusta pushed across a second run to make the score 2-0.

Charleston tacked on two more runs in the 3rd on an RBI triple by Tyler Austin (2-4, RBI, 3 runs scored) followed by another RBI single by Sanchez. They added an insurance run in the 5th when Austin singled, stole second, moved to third on an error and scored on a single by Ben Gamel. Austin's theft was one of five that the 'Dogs had in the game.

Campos was again stellar on the mound, allowing the GreenJackets just one run on four hits while striking out seven and issuing only one walk. He now has a 0.56 ERA in 16 innings on the year.

The RiverDogs road trip continues tomorrow when they send RHP Caleb Cotham (1-0 3.00 ERA) up against Augusta RHP Clayton Blackburn (0-1 4.32 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday.
