Frisco Extends Win Streak to Four

Frisco RoughRiders News Release

FRISCO, TX- The RoughRiders bullpen bended but did not break, as the squad extended their win streak to four, defeating the Arkansas Travelers 2-1 at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Starter Justin Grimm (3-0) was stellar for a third straight game, allowing only one hit over 6.1 innings, retiring 16 in a row at one point.

Jean Segura was the lucky Traveler who recorded a base hit off Grimm. Coming in the first inning, Segura then stole second to give Arkansas a man in scoring position. However he'd remain stranded after a groundout by Adam Heether retired the side.

Frisco would have better luck in their half of the first. Engel Beltre led off with a walk, then advanced to third on a base hit to center by Jurickson Profar. One batter later Mike Olt grounded into a double play, but it allowed Beltre to score giving the "˜Riders a 1-0 lead. "˜

Frisco would add to it in the fourth. Following a strike out by Brad Hawpe and fly out by Ryan Strausborger, Chris McGuiness stroked a homer off AJ Schugel (0-2) into the Pool Zone beyond the right field wall.

Justin Grimm would work into the seventh, allowing a walk to Darwin Perez, before getting Jean Segura to fly out to center. 90 pitches deep, Steve Buechele made the call to the bullpen, bringing in righthander Wilfredo Boscan. He struck out Adam Heether, before picking off Perez who got himself into a rundown between first and second.

Arkansas wouldn't threaten again until the ninth. Travs catcher Alberto Rosario opened the inning with a base hit off Johan Yan. A single by Matt Long moved Rosario to second, before Yan struck out Perez for the second out. However, a rare balk by the "˜Riders closer moved the runners to second and third.

With Segura at the plate, Yan quickly got ahead in the count 1-2, before the Travs shortstop poked a ground ball down the first base line. Hit between Yan and McGuiness, neither took charge, resulting in Arkansas' first run.

After a walk to DH Adam Heether to load the bases, Steve Buechele called for LHP Joseph Ortiz with Ryan Mount coming to bat. Coming on for the first time since Friday, Ortiz struck out the Travs leftfielder to end the game.

Frisco and Arkansas conclude their three game series Wednesday morning at 11 am. Miguel De Los Santos (0-2, 5.79) starts for the RoughRiders, he is opposed by the Travs' Johnny Hellweg (0-1, 2.70). The broadcast of the game can be heard of KKGM 1630 AM or on ridersbaseball.com. Pregame coverage begins at 10:30.
