Arkansas Travelers News Release

Frisco, Texas - With their offense stymied all night long the Arkansas Travelers left the bases loaded in the ninth inning losing their third straight game by one run, 2-1 to the Frisco RoughRiders on Monday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Joe Ortiz struck out Ryan Mount looking to end the game for his first save. Frisco starter Justin Grimm (3-0) lowered his ERA to 0.50 firing 6.1 innings without allowing a run. Grimm outpitched A.J. Schugel (0-2) who walked five in 5.2 innings and allowed two runs on three base hits. The Travs managed just three singles for the game and are batting .156 during the five ga mes of their current road trip.

With three consecutive losses the Travs fall to 3-8 while the RoughRiders extend their winning streak to four games while improving to 8-3.

Schugel found trouble immediately in the first inning with a leadoff walk to Engel Beltre, who took third base when Jurickson Profar lined a hard single to center. Mike Olt rolled to shortstop Jean Segura for a double play, but Beltre scored giving Frisco a 1-0 lead.

Schugel retired nine of ten batters until Frisco first-baseman Chris McGuiness blasted a solo homer (1) with two outs in the fourth inning.

Grimm only allowed one base runner in his first six innings, that coming on Segura's infield single in the first frame. Grimm followed that with 16 consecutive outs, including five strifeouts, before putting Darwin Perez on base with a seven-inning leadoff walk. After Segura lined out to centerfield, RoughRiders reliever Wilfredo Boscan struck out Adam Heether. Then with Mount batting, Perez attempted to steal second base without a pitch and was caught in a rundown for the third out.

Boscan handed the lead to Johan Yan for the ninth inning and the Travs threatened quickly as Alberto Rosario led off with a single. With one out, Matt Long poked a single to left field but Perez was caught looking at strike three for the second out. With Segura batting Yan went into his motion but did not throw the ball when his arm came through resulting in a balk that moved the tying runs to scoring position. Segura then hit a tapper up the first base line and beat Yan's tag allowing Rosario to score from third base. Yan left after walking Adam Heether on a full count loading the bases for Mount. Ortiz though came in and ran the count to 3-2 before firing a called third strike on the inside corner to end the game.

The game was played in 2:47 and the paid attendance was 3,276.

On Tuesday morning the Travs and RoughRiders close out their series at 11:00 a.m. Travs righty Johnny Hellweg (0-1, 2.70) gets the ball against 'Riders lefty Miguel De Los Santos (0-2, 5.79).
