Kane County Cougars News Release
BURLINGTON, Iowa - A stellar start from Santiago Garrido and more early offense lifted the Kane County Cougars to their second consecutive victory in a 6-2 contest over the Burlington Bees on Saturday night at Community Field.
Through the first three games of this series, the Cougars (5-4) have scored an eye-popping 20 runs against the Burlington (5-4) starting pitchers including five off Raul Alcantara (0-1) on Saturday. Alcantara walked Justin Trapp and Michael Antonio before hitting Jorge Bonifacio to load the bases with one out in the first inning. Alcantara bounced back to punch out Lane Adams, but he couldn't get Henry Moreno, who laced a two-run single up the middle to bring home Trapp and Antonio. It was Moreno's first hit of the season to break an 0-for-18 slide.
In the second, the Cougars ripped three doubles off Alcantara. Jin-Ho Shin's two-bagger started the frame while he crossed the plate on a two-base hit from Trapp to put the Cougars up by three. Orlando Calixte singled Trapp to third with Antonio bringing Trapp to the dish on a sac fly. Bonifacio's double down the left field line knocked in Calixte to give the Cougars a 5-0 cushion.
Garrido (1-0) controlled the Bees' offense through five innings as he surrendered just one hit. Sean Jamieson blooped a single down the right field line to score Douglas Landaeta with two outs in the third. Garrido struck out four in the contest as he walked a pair before giving way to Brooks Pounders, who struck out the side in the sixth. Pounders took the mound in the seventh but was quickly rushed off the mound as the rain began to fall at Community Field.
