Motter's Long Ball Sends Hot Rods to Series Win

April 14, 2012 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Eastlake, OH - On a rainy Saturday afternoon at Classic Park, the Bowling Green Hot Rods (6-3) used a four-run third inning to propel themselves to a 8-4 win over the Lake County Captains (3-6). The win clinches the four-game series in favor of the Hot Rods, who also win for the fourth straight game on the season-opening, seven-game road trip. Taylor Motter contributed with three hits and three runs batted in, including his first home run of the season.

After the Captains took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, Taylor Motter made sure the Hot Rods were in the lead before the Captains returned to the plate in the second. After Cameron Seitzer led the second off with a single to left field, Motter smashed a hanging slider from Captain starter Joe Colon over the left field fence for his first home run of the season. The two-run shot put Bowling Green in the lead at 2-1.

The very next inning, the Hot Rods brought ten men to the plate and scored four times. After Todd Glaesmann advanced everyone ninety feet, reaching on an error in a bases loaded, no-out situation, Seitzer drove in a pair with another single to left field. The next batter was Motter, who drove in another run with his own single to left field. The Hot Rods led 6-1 at the end of two and a half frames.

Bowling Green added two more in the top of the fifth inning in support of starter Ryan Carpenter, who earned his first win at the Class A level on Saturday. The southpaw allowed three runs on eight hits in five innings, an effort that was more than enough on Saturday. Carpenter continued a recent trend for the Hot Rods, in which the team has been getting solid pitching and timely hitting. That formula has produced four straight wins on this season-opening road trip.

The seven-game road venture finishes on Sunday at Classic Park at 12:00 CDT. In an attempt for the four-game series sweep, the Hot Rods will send RHP Roberto Gomez (0-0, 3.00) to the mound, while the Captains will counter with RHP Cody Anderson (0-0, 2.25).

Join Hank Fuerst for the Forever Communications Pre-Game Show at 11:40 AM CDT on 1340-AM "The Ticket" and online at 1340wbgn.com.

The team returns to Bowling Green Ballpark on Monday, April 16 to open a three-game series with the Great Lakes Loons. That three-game series kicks-off a nine-game homestand at Bowling Green Ballpark. For ticket information for all Hot Rods home games, call 270-901-2121 or visit BGHotRods.com.
