Zapata Added to Roster as Golden Heads to DL

PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs and Chicago Cubs have announced that outfielder Oliver Zapata has joined the team in Appleton, Wisconsin while outfielder Reggie Golden has been placed on the 7-day disabled list with a left knee injury. Zapata is scheduled to arrive in Appleton early this afternoon and will be available for Saturday's 1:05 p.m. game against the Timber Rattlers

Zapata, 19, split last season between the Mesa Cubs in the Arizona Rookie League and the Boise Hawks of the Northwest League batting .278 with three homers, 22 RBI, eight doubles and four triples. In 55 total games he scored 41 runs and stole 16 bases in 24 attempts. Zapata started the season in Mesa where he hit .324 with a home run and 12 RBI in 31 games. He was promoted to Boise on August 3 and hit .224 with two homers and 10 RBI over the final 24 games of the season. A native of Bani, Dominican Republic, Zapata was signed by the Cubs on August 1, 2009.

Golden injured his left knee rounding first base on a single off the center field wall on Thursday night in Appleton. In seven games this season he is hitting .192 (5-for-26) with five singles, a walk and a stolen base.
