Erie SeaWolves News Release

(Erie, PA) - The Erie SeaWolves, along with their parent club the Detroit Tigers, are pleased to announce an extension of the club's Player Development Contract. The extension means the SeaWolves will remain the Double-A Affiliate of the Tigers through the 2014 season.

Since the relationship began in 2001, fans have watched some of the best prospects in baseball come through Erie including Justin Verlander, Curtis Granderson, Alex Avila, Brennan Boesch, Cody Ross and over 100 others. There are currently 11 former SeaWolves on the Tigers 25-man roster.

"We are very pleased to be entering into this extension agreement through 2014 with the SeaWolves. Our partnership with the Mandalay ownership group since 2005 and the SeaWolves organization since 2001 has been a strong relationship," Detroit Tigers Director of Minor League Operations Dan Lunetta said. "The strength of that partnership combined with continued improvements at Jerry Uht Park, the ongoing effort to grow fan support and Erie's proximity to Detroit and our other clubs makes this an easy decision."

"The Tigers are an outstanding organization and terrific partners on and off the field," said SeaWolves President Greg Coleman. "We look forward to seeing many more of the brightest young stars in baseball play in Erie on their way to Detroit."

The SeaWolves Opening Week continues on Friday, April 13 as they take on the Bowie Baysox. The first 1,000 fans will receive a schedule poster courtesy of Delta Sonic. The SeaWolves celebrate Jackie Robinson Day on Sunday, April 15 and pay homage to the Negro League era Erie Pontiacs by wearing throwback jerseys. The Erie Travelling Zoo will also be at the game. Monday, April 16, the SeaWolves welcome the Trenton Thunder (New York Yankees) for the first Buck Night of the season.
