August 2, 2011 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Padres News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Anthony Rizzo of the Tucson Padres and Dana Eveland of the Albuquerque Isotopes have been named Pacific Coast League Player and Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 25-31, the league announced today.

Rizzo drove in at least one run in all seven of the week's games to help him post a total of 17 RBI, which is the most by any hitter in Major and Minor League baseball over that time span. The left-handed slugger also belted a PCL-best five home runs, three of which came over three consecutive games between July 25th and 27th. In addition, Rizzo led the PCL in hits (15), extra-base hits (10), total bases (35), doubles (5) and slugging percentage (1.250). The Florida native recorded a .536 batting average during the week, registering two or more hits in six of his seven games.

After playing in 35 games for the San Diego Padres in June and July, Rizzo was optioned to Tucson on July 22nd. The 21-year-old is batting .371 over 62 games with Tucson, falling 13 plate appearances shy of qualifying for the second-best batting average in the PCL.

Eveland tossed a complete game shutout in his only start during the week, limiting the Omaha Storm Chasers to three hits on July 28th. All three hits allowed by the left-hander in the road start were singles, with none of them leaving the infield. Eveland also struck out six and walked one while picking up his PCL-leading 11th victory of the season. The nine-inning complete game was Eveland's second in his nine-year career, with the previous instance occurring in 2008 with the Oakland A's.

Eveland has won each of his last four starts and has not allowed more than one earned run in each of those starts. In five games during July, the 2011 PCL All-Star went 4-1 with a 1.75 earned run average and 25 strikeouts against eight walks. Over his 20 starts this season, the Washington native's .235 batting average against and 3.26 ERA rank first and third, respectively, in the PCL.

Eveland is the third Albuquerque pitcher to win the Pitcher of the Week award in 2011, the most by any PCL pitching staff. Between 2009 and 2010, Albuquerque had a combined three hurlers named PCL Pitcher of the Week.
