Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Tacoma, WA - A big inning translated into big trouble in the Tacoma Rainiers 6-2 loss to the Las Vegas 51s in front of 7,223 fans at Cheney Stadium on Tuesday.

Tacoma, holding a 1-0 lead, surrendered four runs to the 51s in the top of the sixth inning. Third baseman Brett Lawrie tied the score with a single that drove in catcher Ryan Budde. A wild pitch scored Lawrie three batters to give Las Vegas the lead.

Designated hitter Jason Lane rounded out the frame with a two-out, two-run home run with outfielder Adam Loewen aboard to eliminate the Rainiers hopes of a series sweep.

Tacoma held the lead earlier in the outing after Sean Kazmar doubled with two outs in the second to score Matt Tuiasosopo from second base.

Infielder Luis Rodriguez was responsible for driving in Tacoma's only other run after hitting his first home run as a Rainier to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning.

Las Vegas reliever Rommie Lewis (3-3) picked up the win for the 51s after tossing one shutout inning in the fifth. Rainiers starter Nate Robertson (3-5) was dealt the loss after surrendering all four runs to Las Vegas in the sixth. The left-hander ended the day allowing six hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

Reliever Shawn Kelley tossed one scoreless inning in the eighth in the third appearance of his Major League rehab stint with Tacoma.

The Rainiers (55-56) begin an eight-game road trip at 6:05 p.m. on Wednesday when the club opens up a four-game set at Albuquerque. Left-hander Mauricio Robles (1-2, 9.58) is slated to take the mound for Tacoma against right-hander Mike Parisi (1-1, 9.90) for the Isotopes. The game will be broadcast live on South Sound Sports 850-AM and can be streamed online at www.tacomarainiers.com.
