Padres Fall in 11

August 2, 2011 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Padres News Release

The Tucson Padres started August with a close game, losing 4-3 to the Salt Lake Bees in 11 innings at Spring Mobile Ballpark. The Bees scored twice to tie the game in the eighth on a home run by Jeff Baisley and an RBI triple by Jeremy Moore. Salt Lake later scored the winning run on a throwing error by Aaron Poreda after the lefty walked one batter and hit another to begin the inning.

Tucson led by a run in the seventh and nearly lost the lead when the Bees put two on with none out. The Padres defense narrowly escaped, on a great barehanded play by James Darnell, then an unusual break when Kevin Romine was called out of the box on a bunt attempt and a catch by Matt Clark on a line drive to left for the third out. Baisley went 2-for-5 with an RBI for Salt Lake in the win.

The Padres and Bees have now played extra innings eight times in 15 meetings this season. Despite only having four hits, the Padres left seven runners on base, including one each in scoring position in the 10th and 11th innings. Tucson has now lost six of its last seven games.
