Edenton Steamers News Release

EDENTON, NC - The DareDevils used a five run fifth inning to cap a 9-5 victory over the Steamers at First Flight Baseball Complex in Kill Devil Hills. Joe Candelmo redeemed his loss earlier in the season to the Steamers by pitching 6.2 innings allowing six hits and five runs in the win. Esterlin Paulino took his first loss throwing 4.1 innings and surrendering four hits and four runs.

The DareDevils got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning against Paulino. A lead-off single by Chris Baker started the inning, followed by a double from Chad Carman that put runners on second and third. Alexander Aurrichio brought home Baker with an RBI groundout and the lead was 1-0 Outer Banks.

The hometown DareDevils added a run to the lead in the bottom of the third. Jordan Keur reached on an error charged to Tim Saunders of the Steamers. The next batter, Wayne Hawkins walked and was put out on a fielder's choice that allowed Keur to score and push the Outer Banks lead to 2-0.

With Paulino still on the mound for the Steamers in the bottom of the fifth Keur walked to start the inning. Hawkins singled, followed by a walk to Corsner to load the bases. A wild pitch from Paulino allowed Keur to score and give the DareDevils a 3-0 lead. Chris Baker, the next batter hit, a sacrifice fly that brought home Hawkins from third to give Outer Banks a 4-0 lead.

Steamers head coach Dirk Kinney went to his bullpen and brought in right-handed pitcher Jordan Egan. Chad Carman greeted Egan with an infield single. Alexander Aurrichio followed with a fielder's choice that saw Corsner put out at home for the second out. Chris Reese reached on a Steamer error to load the bases and Tyler Sciacca hit a ball to deep center that Ryan Brenner completely lost in the smoke covering the Outer Banks First Flight Baseball Complex. The ball went for a three run triple that pushed the lead to 7-0 DareDevils.

Edenton cracked the scoreboard in the top of the sixth with a walk to Brian Blasik. Three batters later, with two outs, Vinnie Mejia knocked in Blasik with a double to begin the scoring for the Steamers and make it 7-1 Outer Banks. The very next batter Ryan Porter brought home Mejia with a single to cut the Outer Banks lead to 7-2.

The very next inning Edenton continued to score against DareDevils starter Joe Candelmo when Joey Wendle tripled home Ryan Brenner, who reached on a fielder's choice and Ryan Blasik who walked. Wendle came home to score on a wild pitch by Candelmo's replacement; Brock Wilson and the score was 7-5 Outer Banks.

A double play ball in the top of the eighth ended a potential Steamers rally and after Outer Banks tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the eighth with two RBI singles the Steamers went in order in the top of ninth and fell to the Outer Banks DareDevils 9-5.

With the loss the Steamers fall to 6-2, tied for first place with the Peninsula Pilots. The DareDevils improve to 5-3 and stay a game back of the Steamers in the CPL Northern Division.
