Former Pilot goes in first round of MLB draft

Former Pilot Kes Carter was the 56th overall pick in the 2011 Major League Baseball draft by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Carter is originally from Brentwood, Tennessee and played Ravenwood High School where he was name All-State First Team. Carter was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 43rd round of the 2008 Major League Baseball draft. In his freshman season at Western Kentucky University he appeared in 42 games, batting .383. He started all 58 games his sophomore season, hitting seven home runs and collecting 53 RBIs. He was also named first team All-Sun Belt Conference. This year he started 53 games, hitting .344 with seven home runs and 40 RBIs. Carter was again selected to the All-Sun Belt Conference first team as an outfielder.
Carter spent his last two summers playing for the Pilots, where he hit .272 and .228 in 2009 and 2010, respectively. He started a combined 58 games in his two seasons in Hampton, and had a .405 on base percentage in 2010.
