Raiders Force Fayetteville Into 2nd Place

April 17, 2011 - Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL)
Richmond Raiders News Release

(RICHMOND)- The Richmond Raiders used a solid team effort in all three segments to defeat the Fayetteville Force 61-43 Saturday night at the Richmond Coliseum. Richmond raised their record to 4-1 and took over first place in Mid-Atlantic Division of the SIFL.

It wasn't pretty; the two teams tied for first place combined to commit 8 turnovers. The difference was the dominance of the Richmond defense and two key special teams plays in the first half. With the score 7-7 in the first quarter Richmond successfully executed an onside kick recovered by Rodney Landers (JMU) which led to a 4 yard TD pass to Landers from Robbie Jenkins (Bridgewater) two plays later. The Raiders then recovered a "chipped" field goal attempt from their own end zone to continue a possession that eventually ended in a 16 yard Jenkins TD pass to Redd Thompson (VSU).

Thompson (Highland Springs / VSU) caught 8 passes for 140 yards and 5 touchdowns; giving him eight in the two game home stand. Jenkins finished the game 15 for 27 for 194 yards and 7 touchdowns. Brandon Isaiah rushed for 51 time consuming yards and a touchdown; mostly after the Raiders were protecting a 42-10 third quarter lead.

The Raiders defense allowed only 97 yards and 10 points in the first three quarters to put the game away early. They denied the Force from scoring from the red zone 4 out of 7 times. Brent Trice led all tacklers with 12 including a tackle for a loss. Richmond added two sacks and 3 TFLs to their league leading totals in both categories. Larry Williams (Highland Springs / WVU) paced the secondary with 2 pass interceptions; his third in two games.

The Richmond Raiders continue their 2011 home schedule against the Erie Explosion at 7 pm. It will be Local Attraction Night presented by Colonial Downs. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Raider Ticket Hotline at 804-780-0430 or at ticketmaster.com.
