Richmond Flying Squirrels News Release

RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Flying Squirrels will be taking part in an honorary wreath exchange with Wreaths Across America Saturday morning, December 11th, at 10:20 am during the 2nd Annual Toys for Tots Holiday Party.

There will be a procession down Boulevard with a tractor trailer and a 200-300 motorcycle escort. They will stop across the street in the southbound lanes and Nutzy will exchange the wreaths with Rev. Rocky Angone, Director of Wreaths Across America. The procession will then follow Boulevard, turn on Broad Street, and end at the Richmond National Cemetery where the wreaths will be laid on the soldier's graves.

"Taking part in the Wreaths Across America ceremony is the Flying Squirrels' way of honoring and saying thank you to our military," said Flying Squirrels' Vice President & COO Todd "Parney" Parnell. "It's important for all of us to remember those fallen soldiers and their families who helped protect our freedom."

Wreaths Across America was established as an extension of the Arlington Wreath Project to promote Veterans remembrance. With the establishment of the nonprofit group, Wreaths Across America has grown to placing over 100,000 wreaths on veterans' graves each December.

The Toys for Tots event Saturday from 10 am - 2 pm will aid the United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots Drive, and the team will be collecting new, unwrapped toys which will be distributed to children in need during the holiday season. The Holiday Party will feature Santa Claus, Parney the Elf and Nutzy who will be available for photos, which party-goers will be able to take home with them courtesy of Real Life Studios. The event will also include live holiday music, hot chocolate and cookies and a crafts area. The Squirrels Nest Merchandise store will also be open throughout the event for holiday shopping.

The Diamond will become a one-stop holiday shopping zone this holiday season as for the first time there will be a Christmas tree lot at the ballpark. The Diamond Christmas Tree Lot will include hundreds of live Christmas trees, wreaths, garland, tree stands and more. The Diamond Christmas Tree Lot will be open throughout the holiday party and is located in the Flying Squirrels Birthday Zone at the ballpark. The lot will be open November 26th though December 24th, daily from 9 am to 8 pm.
